Join the Board

As a not for profit organization, Thistleoaks is overseen by a Board of Directors whose primary responsibility is to oversee the strategic direction of the Centre and ensure its continued operations. The board consists of nine Directors, including four who fill out its Executive Team, who have each volunteered for a 3-year term.

 

For the 2021-2022 year, we have two (2) openings for Board Members who, once selected by the interview committee, would be confirmed and begin their terms at our Annual General Meeting in autumn of 2021. We encourage all interested parties to apply, with special consideration given to current parents, as well as those who have backgrounds in Finance, Accounting, or who are small business owners. 

 

Expectations of Board Members are:

  • To attend all Board Meetings (9 per year with an average duration of 1.5-2 hours)

    • In response to COVID-19, meetings are taking place as an online videoconference at 8:30pm​

    • We will be continuing online meetings until further notice

    • Even once things return to 'normal', we will continue online meetings as it offers board members more flexibility with personal schedules. We will have in-person meetings once every few months for special events (for example, the AGM) and to stay connected once we are able

  • To attend the Annual General Meeting in the autumn (date to be confirmed)

  • To serve on the Board for three years 

  • To attend any supplemental emergency meetings, as required

  • To complete work related to any sub-committee to which they commit, as required

  • To adhere to all by-laws of the Centre and legal obligations of a not-for-profit Board of Directors.

Members may not miss more than three meetings over the course of the year. Lastly, while not required, it is requested that Board members take part in some of the volunteer events that take place at Thistleoaks (Spring Cleanup, Fundraisers, etc.).

Key Dates

Friday, August 27th, 5:00pm - Applications for the Board of Directors will close. 

Monday, August 30th to Friday, September 10th : Interviews will be conducted

Friday, September 17th: Candidates will be contacted with the final decision

October 2021 (date TBC), 6:00pm: The Annual General Meeting at Thistleoaks. The successful candidates must be able to attend this meeting to be eligible for the Board of Directors. We are expecting this year's AGM to be held online.
