Dear Thistleoaks Families,
In place of doing our annual Food Drive in support of the community this year, we have decided to give all of the proceeds from our Food and Toy Drive to a family here at Thistleoaks.
We believe that high-quality early childhood programs can serve as a buffer for children experiencing temporary or long-term persistent stress by establishing nurturing relationships with children as well as with their families (How Does Learning Happen, page 31).
Our annual Food and Toy Drive has always been a staff initiative and this year the staff organizing the event have decided to support a family within our centre that is experiencing long-term persistent stress.
We are inviting our Thistleoaks families to join us in our quest to ensuring that during this holiday season, this family can take a much-needed break from the stress of feeding and clothing their family.
A list of much-needed items follows:
Non-perishable food items
New, unwrapped toys
Diapers and wipes
Gift cards in lieu of cash are also appreciated (gas, restaurants, Wal-Mart, groceries, etc.)
